THE SECRET GARDEN PROJECT
The White House was established in 1985 as a care home for the elderly.
In 2007 the residents, staff and management embarked on a project to create a Secret Garden for the enjoyment of all.
To provide a horticultural therapy zone.
To make the access to the lower garden available for everybody.
To encompass the nature of the current area.
To create a tranquil haven.
The first major part of the Project has been completed. A slope access and pathway has been constructed to allow residents, staff and relatives enjoy the tranquility of the lower garden.
Ideas and suggestions for the planting, features and seating were sought from residents, relatives, friends and staff. This work is well underway but we welcome new ideas to improve it further.
This project was supported by donations and fund raising events by The White House Residents’ Fund and a grant for the local council.
Further developments are planned and the improvements to date are being enjoyed by all!
